Making Steps

Timisoara, Romania

The project proposes a small stair that can be pragmatically hooked into the ground floor window openings, creating an informal access point between the park and the interior spaces of the school.

Placed in a window bay, the stair allows visitors to enter the building via this small rebellious act, bypassing the usual entrances and establishing a direct link between park and architecture.

Its form recalls a pool ladder or small boarding stair and is conceived as a lightweight element that can be installed in, or moved to, different windows if needed.

Simple and reversible, the intervention turns a largely hermetic façade into a porous threshold between the built and the unbuilt.

The gesture can also be read as a continuation of what nature has already begun doing: branches pushing through the window frames and quietly reclaiming space.
